Martial Arts Program (Part of the Nation Karate Association and Karate Alberta Association)
The Mid-Sun Karate Program is part of the World Union of Karate Organizations (WUKO). It is also a member of the National Karate Association (NKA), Karate Alberta Association (KAA) and the International Renshikan Shito-ryu Karate-Do Association. The program offers classes to all skill levels from young children to Youth and Adult levels. The type of Karate practiced is called "Shito-ryu" which is one of the oldest and part of the four main styles of Japanese Karate in the World.
Shito-ryu Karate teaches not only unarmed combat and self defense but introduces individuals to Tournament Karate. Karate will teach a student self confidence and improves physical fitness. Once a student reaches an advanced level they may also be introduced to Kobudo but only with the instructor's permission. Students will advance at their own pace and will be tested on a regular basis for their color belts. A student can eventually become proficient enough to test for a Black Belt. All levels are offered at Mid-Sun. A student must work hard and progress through introductory, color, and advanced levels before Black Belt testing can take place.
If you have taken Karate or Martial Arts classes elsewhere, our instructor will help place you in the appropriate class and level. All classes focus on continued physical and mental development and are taught by an NCCP (National Coaching Certification Program) Certified Instructor. The instructor is also a "Shihan" (Certified Karate Instructor) and holds a 6th Degree Black Belt in Shito-ryu Karate. Training emphasizes self-confidence, self control and proper technique. Uniforms (Karate-gi) and equipment are available and can be purchased from the instructor.
